Exercise and Movement Participation

Movement and exercise should always be appropriate to your individual abilities, health status and circumstances. AgeStrong encourages people to work within their current capabilities and to progress gradually.

Some people may benefit from obtaining individual guidance from an appropriately qualified healthcare or exercise professional before beginning or significantly changing an exercise programme, particularly if they have a known medical condition, recent injury or surgery, significant mobility limitation, unexplained symptoms, or concerns about exercising safely.

If an exercise or movement causes significant or unusual discomfort, dizziness, chest pain, shortness of breath or any other concerning symptom, stop immediately and consult a medical professional.

The AgeStrong Five Movement Screen

The AgeStrong Five Movement Screen is an educational self-observation tool designed to help you think about how you perform five important movement families:

Squat
Hinge
Push
Pull

Carry

Observe your movement and consider three simple questions:

Please Note & Seek Guidance

It is not a medical assessment, diagnostic test or substitute for an individual professional evaluation. There is no universal pass or fail score.

If a movement produces significant or unexplained discomfort, or you are unsure whether it is appropriate for you, seek guidance from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Movement Workshops & Education

AgeStrong Academy

A structured movement initiative built on safety, individual progression, and scientific training principles.

AgeStrong Academy programmes and Movement Workshops are designed to provide structured movement and exercise education through the AgeStrong approach: RESTORE • IMPROVE • BUILD.
Exercises may include mobility work, balance activities, resistance training, strength training, power training and other forms of physical activity. The appropriate starting point, exercise variation, resistance, volume and progression will differ between individuals.

Age, training history, current physical capacity, medical history and previous injuries may all influence what is appropriate for a particular person.

Participation in AgeStrong Academy content remains voluntary and should always be adapted to the individual’s capabilities and circumstances.

Individual Results

People respond differently to exercise and movement programmes. AgeStrong does not guarantee specific improvements in strength, mobility, balance, pain, physical function, body composition, health or any other outcome. Progress may be influenced by many factors including health status, consistency, training history, nutrition, recovery, sleep, medication, injury and individual physiology.

External Resources

AgeStrong may occasionally reference research, professional organisations, third-party websites, products, services or other external resources. These references are provided for informational purposes only and do not constitute an endorsement or guarantee of accuracy. Personal Responsibility

The goal of AgeStrong is to help you become more informed, confident and capable in how they approach movement and exercise. However, every person’s circumstances are different.

You remain responsible for deciding whether a particular activity is appropriate for you, choosing a suitable exercise environment and equipment, and seeking individual professional guidance when necessary. The aim of AgeStrong is not to encourage fear of movement, but to help people approach movement intelligently, progressively and confidently.
